Pledge/God issue sure to resurface

"Flags Up,"

We are a country of laws and rules, all civilized nations are. If you want to blame someone for not getting your way, blame the man who brought the case illegally. Don't worry, the issue will be heard again and a decision will be given one way or the other.

I do find it interesting that all symbols and mention of God are being taken out of the public fray. I do believe other countries have done the same thing. The former Soviet Union, Cuba and China to name a few. I guess by your logic, these countries would be ideal.

It is not so much the taking away of religion from the public arena that I disagree with. Religion supplies a moral compass. No one is perfect and we all fail routinely. But it gives you something to reach for. It also holds people accountable for their destructive actions, whether they are drugs, alcohol or theft. My problem is that without religion or another moral equivalent, there is nothing to allow us to judge good and bad behavior. We are giving everyone a pass because we take judgments out of daily life. Yet, honestly, how many actions do we take that only affect us. Not many - if any.
