Wisconsin-Green Bay inks contract with 'U'

April 21, 2004

The Wisconsin-Green Bay men's basketball team will set foot in Breslin Center next season for the first time since December 1981.

The Phoenix agreed to a four-game contract spread out over the next five seasons.

The first game will be played in East Lansing on Nov. 23.

The teams won't face each other during the 2005-06 season and will meet in Green Bay in the 2006-07 season and again in East Lansing in 2007-08 and 2008-09.

Tod Kowalczyk, head basketball coach at Wisconsin-Green Bay, has ties to MSU head coach Tom Izzo:

Kowalczyk's assistant, Dale Race, has known Izzo for nearly 30 years.

Wisconsin and Northwestern are the only other Big Ten teams to host the Phoenix.
