Shortly after 9 a.m. Thursday, MSU police officers responded to the Forest Akers East Golf Course after a cow escaped from the Pavilion for Agriculture and Livestock Education, MSU police Sgt. Florene McGlothian-Taylor said. The owner of the cow, a man from Olivet with no university affiliation, said he was showing the cow at a beef show at the pavilion. He told officers he was moving the cow with a leash when it pulled away and ran out the door. The cow ran through an opening in a fence and toward a wooded area, at which point it became cornered. McGlothian-Taylor said the cow then became spooked, backed into the fence and ran on to the driving range of the golf course. The cow damaged retainers holding about 60 feet of fence to the fence post, causing about $30 worth of damage. There was no damage done to the golf course. The owner of the cow was able to get the cow back through the fenced area and to the pavilion, and MSU police officers did not need to intervene, McGlothian-Taylor said."It's not a common occurrence, but sometimes the animals do get loose," McGlothian-Taylor said.· A 42-year-old male employee reported his laptop computer stolen from the Agricultural Engineering Building on Thursday, McGlothian-Taylor said. The man said he left his office unlocked while he went to teach a class and, when he returned, discovered the computer missing. It's valued at $3,256. A few hours later, McGlothian-Taylor said police received a tip from an anonymous caller who named a possible suspect. Police are continuing to investigate.Sarah McEvilly
