Fast records first NHL goal with Hurricanes

April 6, 2004

Time was almost running out for former Spartans defenseman Brad Fast to record his first NHL goal in his professional debut with the Carolina Hurricanes on Sunday.

With less than three minutes left in regulation, Fast's wrister went past Miami goaltender Roberto Luongo to force the game into overtime.

The game ended in a 6-6 tie.

The Spartans' second-leading scorer last season finished the game with one goal and a plus-1 rating, including four shots on net while playing just over 21 minutes.

The native of Fort St. John, British Columbia, wore the Green and White from 1999-2003. In 164 career games as a Spartan, Fast collected 114 points, which ranks seventh as MSU's defenseman career scoring leader.
