Men's track team 9th in indoor competition

The MSU men's track and field team finished the Big Ten Indoor Championship competition in ninth place overall at Michigan on Saturday.

MSU finished the competition, which was held Saturday and Sunday, with a total of 27 points - more than double its 11 total points from last season's Big Ten Championship. Wisconsin took the competition with a total of 174.5 points.

Charlie Smith, Anthony Thomas and Chris Hohn were Sunday's top finishers in their events in the pentathlon. Smith finished seventh, claiming the title of MSU's top pentathlete, and Hohn and Thomas placed third and fourth, respectively, out of 14 in the heptathlon pole vault.

Carlos Alexander placed sixth in the 60-meter dash and finished the 200-meter dash in eighth place for the Spartans.

The Spartans compete in the Alex Wilson Invitational on Friday.
