Clutten, relay win big in conference meet

MSU men's swimming and diving finished up a competition at the Big Ten Championships with individual performers excelling.

The championship was held Friday and Saturday in West Lafayette, Ind.

Standing out for the Spartans was Ian Clutten, who placed seventh in the 200 breaststroke, swimming the event in a time of 1:59.73 and earning an NCAA provisional qualifying time. Clutten and teammates Rudolf Wagenaar, Patrick Saucedo and Matt Wisniewski finished the 200-yard medley relay in a time of 1:29.22, breaking a varsity record in the event. Clutten also placed fourth in the 100 breaststroke on Friday, breaking his own varsity record with a time of 54.24.

Johan Sunryd finished 16th in the 200 backstroke, with a time of 1:49.47.

Both Chad Wilson and David Habel finished in the top 26 in the 1,650 freestyle event, with scores of 15:57.05 and 16:12.73, respectively.
