Spartan hockey picks up recruit for '04 season

MSU hockey gained another recruit for the 2004 season when they picked up Minnesota's Jim McKenzie.

Nicknamed "Big Mac," McKenzie stands at 6 feet 2 inches tall and weighs 205 pounds. The right-wing McKenzie is the captain of the Sioux Falls Stampede and leads the Stampede in goals (19), assists (26), points (45), plus-minus ratings (plus 9), shots (139) and penalty minutes (106).

He is rated first in the league in short-handed goals (2), sixth in points and penalty minutes, eighth in assists, and ninth in shots. He played in 45 Stampede games last year and had 24 points.

On January 5, McKenzie was named Player of the Week by the United States Hockey League. He will be the first Stampede player to join the Spartans.
