When I picked up The State News this morning and glanced at the top of the first page, I noticed "Sparty time: 'U' mascot named top in country (SN 1/21)." I was so excited to rip open the paper and read an article all about how and where he had won. But I was very disappointed to see a ridiculously small article of about 300 words on how Sparty had won first place. Not only was it so small I could barely find it, but it was on the last page. I can't believe it. There was a quote saying, "For us, it's like winning the Final Four or the Rose Bowl" so, if it were so huge and distinguished to win, then it deserves a better place in the school newspaper.
I think students would be so excited and even more spirited to find out our mascot got No. 1 in the nation. As one of the most devoted Spartan fans, I am offended that Sparty didn't get the credit he deserves. Our school mascot is the symbol of our school spirit and the pride we display for MSU. Without Sparty, MSU would not be what it is today. I wish The State News would prioritize articles better. Go green.
