Women's cross finishes 3rd; men finish 11th

At the NCAA Great Lakes Regionals hosted by Indiana State on Saturday, the MSU women's cross country team finished third out of 30 teams, and the men finished 11th out of 32.

Senior Michelle Carson finished second overall in the women's 6K race at 20:26. This was the third year Carson finished in the top five at the regionals. Senior Jamie Krzyminski also was a top runner for the Spartans, finishing fifth overall for the second straight year at 20:45.

Junior Steve Sherer was the top runner for MSU, finishing 26th overall with a time of 31:08. Freshmen Matt Bartelbaugh and Ryan Newsted also ran well, finishing 65th and 67th, respectively.

The women's regional finish gives them a shot to compete in the NCAA Championships on Monday, Nov. 25 in Cedar Falls, Iowa. The NCAA will release the teams competing in that competition today.
