Men's soccer falls to No. 7 Notre Dame, 1-0

What would have been the MSU men's soccer team's 12th win of the season slipped through its fingers in a muddy 1-0 defeat to No. 7 Notre Dame on Sunday.

Mud-soaked players slid across the field, saturated from rain showers that lasted a good part of the first half in a soggy and almost scoreless game. The first and only goal came in the 70th minute by Notre Dame midfielder Greg Martin after Notre Dame capitalized on a well-placed corner kick.

"It was kind of heartbreaking the way that went down," MSU midfielder Jeff Krass said. "We knew from there, it was an uphill battle." He also said, despite the loss, the Spartans played very well, and he believed the weather played a key factor in the result of the game.

MSU (11-4-2 overall, 3-1-2 Big Ten) beat Bowling Green 2-0 on Friday in the first of two home games hosted at Old College Field this weekend. This was MSU's final game of the regular season. The Spartans will now head to Bloomington, Ind., to battle for an NCAA bid in the Big Ten Tournament from Nov. 13-16.
