November 17, 2003

Three MSU wrestlers earned wins during the Spartans' 29-12 loss to No. 1 Oklahoma State at Jenison Field House on Sunday.

Nate Mesyn garnered the Spartans' first victory in the 184-pound weight class. Oklahoma State junior Brett Munson was substituted for national champion and No.1-ranked Jake Rosholt in the match. Mesyn controlled the match putting Munson on his back twice for near-fall points and gained more than three minutes of riding time. Mesyn won 7-0 and moved his season record to 5-1.

Redshirt freshman Andy Simmons, who is ranked No. 12 in his 141-pound weight class, defeated No. 15 Ronnie Delk, 11-5. Simmons improved his record to 6-2.

Senior heavyweight Mike Keenan scored an upset in the heavyweight division when he pinned No. 6 Will Gruenwold. Gruenwold controlled most of the first period but lost a pinning combination leaving an opening for Keenan to pick up a reverse for the pin. This was MSU's first pin of the dual season and helped Keenan improve his record to 10-3.
