Field hockey players given postseason honors

November 18, 2003

MSU field hockey team members received individual postseason honors Monday after the team won two championships in 2003.

Senior co-captains Alexandra Kyser and Sophie Rosmalen and junior Annebet Beerman were named to the STX/NFHCA Division I All-West Region First Team. Sophomore goalkeeper Christina Kirkaldy earned second-team All-West Region honors.

Kyser was a unanimous first-team All-Big Ten selection and was named Big Ten Tournament MVP for her three goals in tournament play.

For the third-straight season, Rosmalen earned first-team All-West Region honors. She and Kyser were both named to this year's NFHCA Senior All-Star squad.

Beerman also earned her third-straight All-West Region award.

This marks the second time Kirkaldy earned All-West Region honors in her career.

The field hockey team ended the 2003 campaign Sunday, falling to Michigan in the second round of the NCAA tournament, 2-1. The Spartans completed their season with a 17-5 record.
