I would like to inform you why East Lansing is a bad college town. On last Saturday night, there was an awesome show at The 547 Place (near Espresso Royale on Grand River Avenue) featuring local bands such as Ettison Clio, Within Four Walls and KO my love.
The club is open to all ages, is substance free and allows local East Lansing bands to play near campus. The 547 Place is owned and operated by MSU's Campus Crusade for Christ, which is a nonprofit organization.
Ettison Clio was the last band to play and two songs into their set, a police officer walked in. It seems that an East Lansing resident called in a noise complaint around 10 p.m. As a result, the show was broken up and the students that put on the show had to pay a large fine.
Now, you would think that a venue that is close to campus and is substance free would be a good thing for students. But not according to a resident near the club who couldn't take a little noise. Let's face it. This is a college town.
That means that college students live, work and play in the town. And college students are going to be loud.
When people move into East Lansing, they should realize that the noise level will be slightly higher.
This college has been around for a long time, and we students are not going to leave. Other residents should know what they are getting into before they move into East Lansing.
This almost makes me want to move to Ann Arbor.
