Men's soccer player given offensive award

MSU men's soccer sophomore forward Ryan McMahen was named Big Ten Offensive Player of the Week on Monday, netting one goal and three assists in MSU's win over Penn State on Sunday.

McMahen, who did not play in 2002 because of an injury, brought his season totals to six goals and six assists. He has started 13 games for the Spartans this season.

McMahen was one of the most promising freshmen in the conference following the 2001 season, tying for first among conference freshmen with six goals. That season, he also netted three game-winning scores.

MSU's next matchup will be a home contest against Western Michigan this Wednesday at 3 p.m. at Old College Field.
