The Lansing Board of Water & Light will test its public warning system with a "whooping" tone and voice message in English and Spanish at 10 a.m. Thursday.
The system is located near the Moores Park Dam and was installed in 1996 to warn residents, workers and passers-by if a rupture in the dam occurred.
It has sirens and speakers in two locations - Cherry Hill Park, on River Street, and River Point Park, near the intersection of South Grand Avenue and East Hazel Street.
The loud speakers are intended to inform residents to seek high ground in the event of an emergency at the dam.
