Cell phones recycled, funds restore Old Town
Lansing's Old Town MainStreet is instituting a cell phone recycling program for collecting and redeploying used and unwanted cell phones.

The generated funds will be used toward the nonprofit organization that works to revitalize Lansing's Old Town district.

The Charitable Recycling Program of Bloomfield Hills is collaborating the program with Old Town MainStreet and will give money received from cell phone collection back to the establishment.

Recycled cell phones are often donated to 911 emergency services, providing battered women and senior citizens a direct link to needed assistance. Some recovered phones are reused in less developed countries where new phones are outrageously priced.

Old and used cell phones can be dropped off at Old Town MainStreet, 1232 Turner St. in Lansing, until Sept. 5.
