Riot overshadows 'U' achievements

There are some amazing things going on at MSU but, sadly, you probably wouldn't know it by glancing at the headlines of our student newspaper. Why continue to publicize the riots when students are organizing to do groundbreaking work that deserves recognition?

Student groups on campus organized with each other to create a list of unified demands and then had a demonstration at the trustees' meeting to get the list implemented. As a community of learners, we should be proud of our student leaders and our student groups for working together to have a collective vision to make our university a better place.

There are very few universities that have this type of student group leadership to implement any substantial agenda for change - we have that. We should be publicizing how progressive and visionary our campus is, or perhaps how hard people are working to make it that way - not how many cars we can tip over or how many couches we can set on fire.
