A 19-year-old female student was assaulted Sunday morning near Phillips Hall by a stranger, MSU police Sgt. Jennifer Brown said.The man grabbed and threatened to take the woman's purse. She struggled with him and then fell to the ground. The man left the scene without taking the purse.The woman sustained swelling on her head from the man hitting her with his fist and sought medical treatment. She said there might have been a witness who rode by the scene on a bike. Police are looking for a man who might live in the Phillips and Snyder halls complex for information, but not as a suspect.Police are encouraging the man to call the MSU Department of Police and Public Safety at (517)355-2222. A 19-year-old female student reported someone stole her backpack Sunday from a locker in IM Sports-East, Brown said.The woman had a lock on her locker but wasn't sure if it was locked. The value of the loss is more than $100 and police have no suspects. Someone smashed out the back window of an MSU police car Sunday outside of West Wilson Hall, Brown said.Police are investigating the crime by reviewing fingerprints. The damage is estimated at $500.
