I personally am disheartened that a government so unprecedentedly large and prolific as ours cannot learn the simple lesson that Mohandas K. Gandhi, the Rev. Martin Luther King, the Dalai Lama and countless others have taught us. As individuals, nonviolence can affect permanent change much more profoundly than violence ever will.
No American is exempt from guilt today. Take a good look at the person sitting next to you. Yesterday your money paid for someone exactly like them to die. Whether you support the war or not, your taxes paid for a bullet and the training that put that bullet in a human being.
I hope none of us ever forget that.
