Myers, Hughes to speak at fund-raiser

January 6, 2003

Dee Dee Myers and Karen Hughes, two political opponents from the White House, will speak at two fund-raising events for MSU's Michigan Political Leadership Program Feb. 20-21.

The program, designed to train Michigan residents interested in public service to be more effective in politics, is sponsored by MSU's Institute for Public Policy and Social Research.

Myers served as White House press secretary during the Clinton administration and was the first woman and the youngest person to do so. She is a consultant to the NBC series "The West Wing," a show about a presidential administration in the White House. She also is a contributing editor to Vanity Fair magazine.

Hughes is an adviser to President George W. Bush and has been his communication director since 1994, when Bush first ran for governor of Texas. Although she left the White House in summer 2002 to move back to Texas, she still remains an adviser to Bush on communication strategy.

Tickets for each event are $125 per person, or $1,250 per table. For reservations or more information, call (517)355-6672 or visit www.ippsr.msu.edu/MPLP
