Class offers insights on cattle feeding

January 6, 2003

A course in cattle feeding and nutrition will be offered in two sessions at four locations in late January and early February. The course, the 2003 Great Lakes Professional Cattle Feeding and Marketing Short Course, will come to East Lansing twice.

The East Lansing sessions will be held Jan. 22 and Feb. 12. The goal of the course is to help cattle feeders to improve the beef product through nutrition.

The first session is designed to show how parts of the cattle differ in value and how to pre-harvest the cattle to improve the quality of the beef. The second session focuses on reducing the risk of E. coli and how to use vaccines effectively.

Registration is $30 for the first person and $15 for each additional person from the same organization. For more information, contact Steve Rust at MSU's Department of Animal Science at (517)432-1390.
