Poetry group to sponsor event

November 8, 2002

The Black Poets Society is presenting “Bum Rush the Stage,” from 7-10 p.m. on Saturday in the Erickson Hall Kiva. People are asked to arrive early, and doors will open at 6:30 p.m.

The event is free and open to the public.

The event will feature Abyss from HBO’s Def Comedy Jam and Cocktails from MTV‘s Road Rules. Also performing will be John Goode, who was featured in Michael Jordan’s Urban Survival Guide and Sugar Johnson who was in Harlem Times and on NBC.

MSU history Professor Richard Thomas, a poet from the civil rights era, also will present at the event.

“This event is essentially an eclectic mix of artists, vocalists and poets,” Ed Garnes, programming director for Black Poets Society said. “All of the poets involved have received national and critical acclaim.”
