Church opens $2.9 million expansion

University United Methodist Church, along with the MSU Wesley Foundation campus ministry, will open the doors to a $2.9 million expansion of its facilities at 10:30 a.m. Sunday.

The MSU Wesley Foundation involves undergraduate and graduate students from MSU and Lansing Community College and Cooley Law School.

The expansion of the church, 1120 S. Harrison Ave. includes offices, classrooms, elevators, a sanctuary balcony and extra gathering space.

Since the 1962 opening of the University United Methodist Church, the congregation has funded and worked together on the details of the expansion.

The congregation service will celebrate their hard work and dedication by welcoming Bishop Linda Lee, resident bishop of the United Methodist Church of Michigan, and past pastors of the church.

New and old members are welcome to attend the opening.
