$300,000 awarded to fight abuse

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has awarded $300,000 to the Michigan Coalition Against Domestic and Sexual Violence as part of the funding for the Domestic Violence Prevention Enhancement Leadership Through Alliance projects.

Coalitions in Michigan, Ohio, Wisconsin, Florida, Delaware, Montana, New York, North Carolina and Virginia were chosen to receive the funding.

The $2.6 million contribution from the agency will spawn activities to fight against domestic violence across the nation.

Money allocation was based on the coalition's capabilities in creating prevention programs, coordinate domestic violence services and propel their state's communities to respond to domestic violence occurrences.

Research conducted by the CDC reports during their lifetime 25 percent of women have been physically or sexually assaulted by a current or former partner.
