MSUs undergraduate student government filled one of its many open positions Monday.
Computer science sophomore David Wilson was hired as the director of Technology and Web site Affairs, now in charge of updating the ASMSU Web site and keeping the computers working.
The kids a ninja, said James Perra, ASMSU interim association director. Hes pretty on the ball. Because of the amount of work that has appeared since I got up here, its nice to have someone whos going to be a concrete person in the staff.
Perra said there are five more positions left open in the organization, and he hopes things will run more smoothly now that theyre filling the gaps on the staff with students like Wilson.
Hes an impeccable student, Perra said. He seems to have a diverse catalogue of knowledge in the field. Im really glad to have him on board.
Wilson, while new to ASMSU, is not new to computers. Hes had experience with several organizations developing Web sites. His experience, he said, will help him with the computer situation ASMSU is in.
Its pretty much a mess right now, Wilson said. Theres a lot of stuff Id like to change right now. Looking through the software, its a lot of 97, 98 versions of programs. Hopefully Im going to be changing around a lot.
One of Wilsons duties will be to update the Web site, that has not been updated since the spring, Perra said.
Our business cards have the Web site on them, and Im kind of embarrassed, Perra said, laughing.
With all of his experience, Wilson said he was still surprised he received the position.
I was kind of surprised because Ive gotten turned down a lot, he said. But I told my parents and they were happy I got a job because theyre sick of giving me money.
Human Resources Director Derek Werner said he was glad one positions filled, so he can begin working on other positions.
Obviously its really good for the organization, he said.
Werner said they were more cautious in the hiring process because of the problems the Academic Assembly saw when Perra was hired as association director. Perra was named interim association director and the applications were reopened to make sure each candidate has a fair chance to apply.
We just wanted to make sure we went about everything we were supposed to, Werner said.
Perra said they were meticulous with the hiring process this time around and are looking forward to having Wilson begin working.
After one day on the job, Wilson said hes anticipating a lot of work with the technology level at ASMSU.
Its going to be a challenge, he said. But Im looking forward to it.
