MIDDAY UPDATE: Irish-Spartan rivalry returns Saturday to E.L.

September 19, 2002

Irish eyes will be looking at East Lansing this weekend for the annual battle between the Spartans and Notre Dame.

The Spartans will be looking for their sixth consecutive win in this series. The Irish hold the overall lead in the 66-game series with a record of 41-23-1.

With the Irish being seen as “America’s Team” in college football, their fans and alumni will be out in droves this weekend.

Notre Dame football fans are known throughout the college football world, but the Spartan faithful have something in store for their counterparts from South Bend.

“We know it’s an important game,” said human biology junior Donald Setter, head of the student cheering section, Bobby’s World. “We’re gonna be behind them 100 percent. We hope our energy in the stands translates out onto the field.”
