U library official appointed to board

The director of MSU Libraries was appointed Thursday by Gov. John Engler to the Library of Michigan Board of Trustees.

Clifford Haka will replace Thomas J. Moore starting Oct. 2 and will serve a three-year term. He will represent the state’s four-year college and university libraries.

Board members make recommendations on the budget, general policies and services of the library.

Haka became director of MSU Libraries in 1997. The Chicago native has worked with the Illinois State Historical Library and the University of Kansas Libraries and has master’s degrees in library science, American history and business administration as well as a bachelor’s degree in history and education.
