Members might not understand actions

The incidents between members of Pi Kappa Phi and the gay community fail to shock or even aggravate me (“Greek, LBGT clashes continue,” SN 4/15). Hate and ignorance are so prevalent that something of this nature fails to shock.

People like this are so ignorant that I refuse to let it aggravate me. The question isn’t whether the fraternity members involved should have been allowed to do what they did, but whether they really understand what they did.

If it is expected that this group of men respect the free speech of the gay community, it is only just that their free speech be respected. If they are comfortable with being intolerant, ignorant and crude, then they can be regarded as such. If their fraternity and the MSU greek system choose to have members that embrace such messages, then we should respect their wish.

If it is a question of whether they understand the severity of what they did, then perhaps they need to be educated. Perhaps they truly are misguided.
