Muslim association celebrates culture, religion at dinner

March 15, 2002

The Muslim Students’ Association is sponsoring its Unity Eid Dinner at 7 p.m. today in the Union Ballroom. The event commemorates the second holiday of the Islamic calendar and Muslims’ pilgrimage to Mecca.

The event is open to the public. Tickets are $7 and can be purchased by calling the association at (517)332-5524.

The event, which will begin with an evening prayer, will feature cultural exhibits, artifacts, photographs, posters and a guest speaker.

Association President Jameel Aftab said he expects this year’s turnout to exceed last year’s 150 people.

“I hope it will go really well,” the psychology senior said. “We are expecting it to be really successful. Everybody is welcome, we have non-Muslim people coming. People are coming from all over.”
