Funding board has been responsible

I am compelled to respond to Margaret Durfy’s letter concerning the actions of the Funding Board (“ASMSU spends ‘U’ dollars unwisely,” SN 3/15).

The letter contains unsubstantiated and completely false allegations. To imply that the Funding Board is “unprofessional” is completely ridiculous.

The Funding Board Code of Operations dictates its policy, and is enacted daily to effectively manage the board in a proper and professional manner.

Also, to state that the board doesn’t distribute funds in an “equal manner” is anything but the truth.

The Funding Board only gives a group a maximum of $3,000 per semester, as stated in the Code of Operations. If a group has received the amount of funding of $10,000, it is from ASMSU’s Student Assembly.

The board’s funding policy for registered student organizations - first-come, first-serve - has been in effect for more than 15 years.

Once the board exhausted funds available to student organizations, the groups were notified of the financial situation by e-mail. If groups were not notified of their interview cancellation, it is the fault of the contact person listed on the Funding Board application, not that of the board.

The Funding Board understands the seriousness of its role. To suggest otherwise is a reflection not on the board but of the author of the letter.
