Your editorial on the publication of the hateful column in Wayne State University’s student newspaper was very well done (“Moral choice,” SN 3/1).

It is always important to remind people that along with rights come responsibilities. I’m not speaking of “political correctness,” but rather a recognition that hate has no place in academia or anywhere else.

If the author of the column had called for a need for tolerance on the part of all faiths, including Islam, that would have been one thing. Instead of pointing out “weaknesses” in a belief system, all he ended up displaying was his own ignorance and intolerance.

By allowing the article to run as written, the editor of The South End did the same.
