Film Festival continues this weekend

March 22, 2002

Easiest “Best Bet” to write ever. Want to see some good movies this weekend? Go to the East Lansing Film Festival. Today, Saturday and Sunday some great examples of independent cinema are going to be shown in four theaters in MSU’s own Wells Hall.

My personal favorite of what I’ve seen so far is “dirt,” which is showing at 9 p.m. Saturday. It’s a funny movie with entertaining characters. Worth checking out.

There’s a lot to check out though - tons of movies and shorts, and even a whole day (Sunday) dedicated to Michigan filmmakers.

For all those early risers (this is a student newspaper) at 11 a.m. Saturday and Sunday there will be some seminars with special guests, including some of the directors on hand to show their films, and Chris Gore, a Michigan native who started the movie site www.FilmThreat.com on the Internet. Should be interesting.

What more do you want, carnival rides? This year is the festival’s fifth and should be the best yet if any of the movies I’ve seen are an indication.

Tickets are $3 for students (with ID) and $5 for general admission. The festival also has festival passes, including a big deal for students, for anyone who wants to see all of it. For a full schedule check out www.elff.com.
