Conference on human rights, traditions in Asia to begin Saturday

March 15, 2002

The Asian Studies Center is sponsoring “Human Rights in Asia: Traditions and Trajectories,” from 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. today and 9 a.m. to noon Saturday at Kellogg Center’s Lincoln Room.

The event is free to MSU students with identification and $15 for lunch.

The event, which is the first of its kind, features speakers from various countries about human rights issues.

Guven Witteveen, outreach coordinator for the Asian Studies Center, said he thinks the events will enlighten students who attend.

“They will start thinking about what they take for granted here,” he said. “The purpose is to hear about human rights and to think about Asia and developing an interest in it or whatever interest you have, strengthen it.”
