Fraternity to spend Saturday reading to kids

February 14, 2002

Members of Phi Sigma Pi will spend time with local youths Saturday.

Fraternity members will be taking part in a drop-in story session for children from 10:30-11:30 a.m. at the East Lansing Public Library, 950 Abbott Road. It’s intended for children ages 2-6.

The program is called Children Are Reading Everywhere (CARE), which is part of Phi Sigma Pi’s national philanthropic effort. This is the first time the program has taken place at the library. About 25 members will be taking part.

Sarah Balfour hopes to volunteer at the event.

“I think it’ll really be a great event for the kids and the program,” said the intern design senior, who is a member of the 65-member national honor fraternity.

There will be crafts, coloring sheets, bookmarks, cookies, juice and possibly a puppet show to compliment the stories being read.

No registration is necessary.
