From noon to 8 p.m. Sunday, Qdoba Mexican Grill will serve food to its customers - for free.
Qdoba, 1127 E. Grand River Ave., and the American Cancer Society are hosting Qdobas Winter Festival Charity Event 2002. The event features free food from Qdobas normal menu and drawings to win Super Bowl catering packages and burritos for a year.
Qdoba is a Mexican restaurant chain founded in 1995 that now has 61 locations across the country. The local Qdoba opened in August.
The American Cancer Society will accept donations throughout the eight-hour event and will have an information table set up with brochures and posters about the organization and its future events.
Ultimately we want to give a substantial amount of money to the American Cancer Society, said Meghan Holefka, Qdoba marketing associate.
Stephanie Rigler, the societys community development director, said the money collected at Qdoba will be used for cancer research, education, advocacy efforts and patient service.
We are appreciative of anything that anyone is able to contribute, Rigler said.
Qdoba chose the American Cancer Society because it is a nationally recognized organization with good goals, Holefka said.
We know that cancer affects a lot of people so this cause would be close to a lot of peoples hearts, she said.
This is the first time for the event, but it could become an annual tradition depending on Sundays turnout.
We want to kick off the new year with a fun event that everyone can benefit from, Qdoba Vice President Matt Barcey said. We believe strongly in the mission of the American Cancer Society and hope this event will help in the ongoing fight against cancer.
