The No. 20 Spartan grapplers will look for revenge tonight when they travel to Central Michigan and take on the No. 19 Chippewas.
Although its the first dual meet of the season, the teams met Nov. 17-18 at the MSU Open.
The Chippewas came out ahead of MSU, taking two championship titles and placing 10 wrestlers in the top eight. The Spartans managed to secure three second-place finishes.
Centrals Jason Borrelli, named most outstanding star of the tournament, defeated both MSU senior co-captain Chris Williams and undefeated redshirt freshman Nick Simmons, to take the championship in the 125-pound bracket.
Simmons took second in the bracket, and redshirt freshman Shane Martin and junior Rashad Evans also placed second in the 141-pound bracket and the 174-pound bracket, respectively.
The Spartans boast a 12-3 lead in the series against the Chippewas and won last years matchup 21-12.
After the MSU Open, the Spartans used the 10-day break from action to hit the practice mats to prepare for Central.
Head coach Tom Minkel, a Central graduate, said this years squad is one of the toughest yet, with a lot of depth and talent at every weight class.
Those strengths will help out later on in the season as the Spartans are scheduled to face nine top 25 teams.
Tonights meet begins at 7:30 in the Rose Arena.
