Lugnuts earn playoff berth as season ends

August 29, 2001

The Lansing Lugnuts have clinched a playoff berth thanks to West Michigan’s 6-1 loss to Fort Wayne on Monday.

The Lugnuts (36-26) fell 12-6 to the South Bend Silver Hawks Monday night, but the West Michigan loss was enough to ensure Lansing’s pass to the three-round postseason.

Lansing will host either Dayton or Michigan in Game 1 of a best-of-three series at 6:05 p.m. Sept. 4 at Oldsmobile Park. Game 2 and, if necessary, Game 3 would be played in Battle Creek or Dayton.

Lansing completed its regular-season home schedule against South Bend on Tuesday and wraps up the season docket with a three-game series against Michigan starting today in Battle Creek.

The Lugnuts now hold a two-game lead over South Bend in the standings and, if they finish ahead of the Hawks, they’ll play Michigan in the first round. Otherwise, they’ll take on Dayton.

Playoff tickets are available at the Oldsmobile Park box office or by calling 485-4500 ext. 251.
