Skate park would improve safety

This response is a cry for help and funds in an effort to build a public skate park in the Lansing area.

The Lansing Area Skate, Bike & Recreation Foundation has been working rather diligently for the past five years to bring a public skate park to the area.

Finally, land has been approved and designs finalized; the only thing lacking is funds. With no support from the city of East Lansing, in a park that borders the city, the foundation is looking for private donations.

This park needs to be built soon so we can avoid tragedies such as the April 6 accident involving Kyle Karp and Thomas Sean Schneider, who were struck by a car and killed while leaving a private skate park along Lake Lansing Road.

A public skate park in Rainney Park near Frandor may prevent future tragedies by giving kids a safe area to practice their sport. Please take the time to visit our Web site at www.skate park2000.org and learn more. You can make a difference in these kids’ lives.
