On Tuesday night Professor Michael Lawrence will show his MSU-Detroit College of Law students a side of him they’ve never seen before.

Lawrence will play guitar and sing in the MSU-DCL staff and faculty talent show called “You Saw Them Rumble, Now Hear them Roar.”

The show is at 8:30 p.m. Tuesday in the Castle Board Room, room 343 in the DCL Building.

Lawrence said he reworked lyrics to a blues song and wrote them to fit the law school setting.

“It’ll be real interesting,” Lawrence said of the talent show. “It definitely puts the professors and administration in a different light so you can see them as rounded human beings.”

Some other MSU-DCL employees are getting into the act as well.

Linda Oswald, Law Review coordinator for MSU-DCL, put together a group called “Get aRound.” The group is comprised of 12 faculty and staff members who plan on singing several songs in rounds for the talent show.

“I think it’s important for the faculty to get together and know each other in a different atmosphere,” Oswald said. “I’m very excited about this. I like singing in rounds, it’s fun.”

The “Get aRound” group practiced twice and Oswald said they are actually sounding pretty good.

Other staff and faculty members are scheduled to perform various acts throughout the night, including Dean Terence Blackburn, Assistant Deans Connell Alsup and Andrea Heatley and Associate Dean Patricia Mell.

Master of ceremonies for the event is Professor John Apol.

Tickets for the event are $5 and can be purchased in the MSU-DCL Dean’s Office, room 368 in the DCL Building.
