Celebrity ball game benefits MLK fund

Fredro Starr of “Save the Last Dance” and Morris Chestnut, star of “The Best Man,” will meet and greet fans today from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m. in the Multicultural Center, located in the Union basement.

The stars will be participating in Hollywood Hoop Fest, a charity basketball game to benefit MSU’s Martin Luther King Scholarship Fund, on Saturday. The Office of Minority Student Affairs and ASMSU’s Coalition for Multicultural Education are sponsoring the event.

ASMSU is MSU’s undergraduate student government.

The game, to be held at Lansing Eastern High School, 220 N. Pennsylvania Ave. in Lansing, will also feature Lisa Ray of “The Player’s Club,” Harold Perrineau Jr. from the HBO series “Oz,” and Black Entertainment Television’s Hits From the Street.

Mateen Cleaves, captain of MSU’s 2000 men’s basketball championship team and Detroit Pistons rookie guard, will coach the celebrity squad.

Tickets for Hollywood Hoop Fest cost $10 and are available at the Office of Minority Student Affairs, 338 Student Services, and the Multicultural Center. For more information, call 353-7745.
