The sounds of the holidays have arrived at MSU - Dischord style.
The Spartan Dischords, MSUs oldest a cappella group, will perform the Dischord Holiday Spectacular at 8 p.m. today in Fairchild Theatre in the Auditorium.
The Holiday Spectacular is the Dischords first solo performance this semester. The group also performed in Accapalooza, a festival of a cappella music in October.
We have songs from the past, songs you hear on the radio. Its a really exciting and fun-filled performance, and also a great opportunity to see what students can do with their voices, said Dischord Jeremy Kratky, an agriculture and natural resources and communication freshman.
The Dischords will include many popular songs in their performance, including a mixture of Christmas music and holiday songs.
The Dischords, a 12-member subgroup of the MSU Mens Glee Club, began in 1982. The Dischords have performed around the state and country.
Our slogan is A Fine Blend of Humor and Music, and we try to blend a lot of good things into our shows, Kratky said.
Jennifer Warncke, a vocal general music education sophomore, has seen several performances and recommends the Dischord experience.
I think they do an awesome show. Its amazing. They can be hilarious, serious and really cute, Warncke said. Anyone could love the show - youd have to hate music not to.
She said her favorite part of the Dischord shows is the bow at the end. They put their arms around each others shoulders and do a kick. Its great, Warncke said.
The Dischord Web site, www.spartandischords.com, allows users to register for fan mail, sign the guestbook and find information on upcoming shows. The site also includes several soundbytes from the 2000 Accapalooza.
The next Dischord performance will be the Big Show during spring semester, when the Dischords will perform all their songs from the entire year.
