When I first finished reading Erin McQuinn s column in the Michigan Daily, A Weekend in East Lansing makes me appreciate A2, my initial feelings were those of contempt and animosity. These, however, soon gave way to another emotion - pity. You see, the glaring irony of her essay is that she is no better than those she criticized. Is a Prada bag any better than a pair of AE boots? Are booty pants any more sophisticated than a wife beater? My point is this, no matter which one of these items you consider superior, the fact remains that when it s all said and done, you are still trying to fit an image rather than develop yourself as a human being. Whether its Calvin Kleins image or that of the softer side of Sears becomes a moot point.
I sincerely hope that the backlash of criticism she is bound to receive in return for her ill-advised exposé makes her realize what a spoiled, petty, ignorant, shallow and mindless automaton she has become. If McQuinn is the type of person that the University of Michigan produces, than I am confident in my choice to come here.
