Police briefs 10/27/00

A man was arrested Wednesday at about 12:45 p.m. for trespassing and assaulting a police officer, MSU police Detective Tony Willis said.Faculty in Berkey Hall called MSU police after spotting a male trying to get into locked offices in the building. When the officer arrived he found the man and escorted him outside the building, Willis said.Once the man was outside he attempted to run from the officer but was caught and a slight struggle ensued. The man kicked and punched the officer, but was handcuffed and taken to the East Lansing jail where he is awaiting arraignment, Willis said.The officer was treated for a cut on his left hand.

  • A worker in South Wonders Hall contacted MSU police after noticing the green sign alerting passers-by of the name of the hall had been stolen, Willis said.The metal base of the sign, cemented into the ground by the entrance of the building is still there but the green placard part of the sign is missing. Police have no suspects. It is not known how long the sign, valued at $1,800, has been missing.
