Police briefs 10/10/00

An 18-year-old female student living in Armstrong Hall was assaulted by an 18-year-old male non-student Saturday, said MSU police Sgt. Maureen Ramsey.The incident occurred between 11 p.m. and 11:30 p.m. and involved a dispute over smoking inside the dorm room. The man then verbally threatened the woman and hit her, she told police.The man left the area before police arrived. No charges were filed and no medical attention was sought.A car parked in Lot 57 was damaged when an unknown number of people attempted to steal a stereo between 4:48 p.m. Saturday and 7 p.m. Sunday, Ramsey said.The car belonged to a 22-year-old female student.The thief attempted to pry a non-removable stereo front off and take the stereo but were unsuccessful, leaving it scratched and broken. There were also several dents and scratches to the passenger side front door where entry was gained to automobile.Police have no suspects. Damage and property loss is estimated at $550.SARA LUNEBURG
