Police briefs 10/03/00

Two armed men entered a home on Esperanza Court in Meridian Township at about 5 a.m. Monday, Meridian Township police said.“The guy forced his way into the house looking for someone, but that person was not in the house so the suspects left,” said Meridian Township police Lt. Thomas Couling.They were gone when police arrived and took nothing from the home. The people inside the home at the time of the incident were left unharmed.One suspect was identified during the investigation and later apprehended without incident in Lansing. Three firearms were also recovered at that time, police said. The suspect is being held in the Ingham County Jail in Mason and will be arraigned on multiple felony charges Wednesday afternoon, Couling said.Police are searching for the second man and little is known about his identity.

  • During a routine property check in Spartan Stadium, an MSU police officer found the entrance to concession stand D open, said MSU police Detective Tony Willis. The officer found the lock had been pried off the door between 5 p.m. Saturday and 3:30 p.m. Sunday. There was nothing inside the storage area, and it is unknown whether anything was supposed to have been there, he said.The door’s hinge was broken.
  • A 19-year-old male student reported the handset to his cordless phone had been stolen between 9 p.m. Friday and noon Saturday from his Wilson Hall room, Willis said.The man left the phone on the chair in his room before going to bed, but when he woke in the morning it was gone. The student said his door may have been unlocked during the night.The phone is valued at $40. Police have no suspects.SARA LUNEBURG
