MTV to hold Real World tryouts

September 28, 2000

This is the true story of an open casting call for the MTV series “The Real World.”

Casting directors will hold open call auditions for “The Real World” and “Road Rules” from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday at Hockeytown Cafe, 2301 Woodward Ave. in Detroit.

The 10th season of “The Real World” will be shot in New York, as a 10th anniversary show in the Big Apple.

People trying out will complete a five- to 10-minute interview, in which they have the opportunity to prove that they are the best person to be the next roommate.

The casting directors are not looking for a particular type of person, but a wide variety of ethnic mixes.

“We ask all kinds of basic questions,” said Sasha Alpert, supervising casting director for “The Real World” and “Road Rules.”

“We ask about the people’s families, what they want to do with their lives and why they want to be on the show,” she said.

Some MSU students are planning on making the trip to Detroit for the audition.

“I am definitely going to Detroit on Friday,” said telecommunication sophomore Greg Finateri.

“I want to be in ‘The Real World’ because it seems like it would be fun to live with six other strangers.”

General business administration freshman Wendy Fuller agreed it would be fun to live with new people.

She said she has what it takes to make it on the drama-filled “Real World.”

“I don’t have a problem living with roommates,” Fuller said. “Also, I am not that opinionated yet, so they might want me on the show because of that.”

People coming to the casting call should get there pretty early, said Marlon Sanders, casting director for “The Real World” and “Road Rules.”

“It is going to be pretty hectic down there that day, so the earlier you get there the better,” he said. “If you get there after 4, you probably won’t get an interview.”
