After a hard loss during night one of the Michigan State-Notre Dame series on the road, where the Spartan hockey team took a tough 4-1 defeat, the team bounced back for night two and took a dominating 4-0 win.

Coming off of a thrilling 3-2 comeback win against the Minnesota Golden Gophers last night, the Spartans welcome their Big Ten opponents back to Munn for night two to finish what they started and sweep the team, but with the rally in the third period from night one, the Spartans were never able to come back from their deficit and eventually took a 5-1 loss.

After a week of practice to clean up their game after a split weekend with Michigan, the Spartans were back in Munn Ice Arena as they set up to host the Minnesota Golden Gophers, knowing well the toughness their opponents would bring onto the Spartans' home ice. The Spartans had three goals in the third period, after trailing most of the game, to come back for a 3-2 win against the Gophers.

Following a devastating 7-1 loss for the Michigan State Spartans hockey team at Munn against the Michigan Wolverine last night, the Spartans were ready to get back into their style of play away at Yost Ice Arena. The team was able to make a comeback from a 1-4 deficit halfway through the second period and take home a dominating 7-5 win.

Coming into a rival game is nothing but exhilarating. The Munn crowd was on their feet chanting for the home team and was ready for a hard-fought game and hoping for a win. But against the Michigan Wolverines, the Spartans took a tough loss with a final score of 7-1, their first regulation loss since Oct. 28 when the team was swept by Boston College.

As the Spartans quickly reach the second half of the season, the team moved up in the USCHO poll from eighth place to seventh place, putting them just a couple of steps closer to the top five. Contributing to this ranking was their series sweep against Penn State, beating them 5-0 on Jan. 12 and 7-3 on Jan. 13.

Coming off of winter break and out of conference play, the Spartans were back in action against Penn State for their first Big Ten game of the regular season. The Spartans beat the Penn State Nittany Lions 5-0 and freshman netminder Trey Augustine grabbed his second shutout of the season and finished with 30 saves.
