Basketball player charged with assault, ESPN reports
MSU basketball player Brock Washington has been charged with misdemeanor assault, ESPN reported.
The charge follows a criminal sexual conduct investigation from an incident in August 2017.
Washington was charged on March 8, by Ingham County Prosecutor's Office, according to ESPN.
"My understanding is that there is no public record on that file and as such that we are not able to comment," Juvenile Justice and Community Outreach Coordinator Scott Hughes said.
The Holmes Youthful Trainee Act could be the reason the court sealed the record, but Hughes said he could not confirm or deny that.
When a person pleads guilty under the act, a court does not enter a judgement of conviction. The records are sealed and if the probation is not violated, the record will remain sealed. If probation is violated, the records can be unsealed.
