An alert sent out on Thursday, which said Larry Nassar had been released from custody, was sent as an error, according to the Michigan Attorney General's Office.

Nassar, a former MSU employee, is being held without bail after being accused of sexual assault and the possession of child pornography.

Victim Information and Notification Everyday, VINE, is a Michigan Department of Health and Human Services system that sends updates about custody status of offenders to victims and to the public.

VINE notified users that Nassar "has been released from custody as of 2/23/2017." The message was likely intended to tell users that Nassar was transferred from Ingham County Jail back into federal custody, Michigan Attorney General's Office Director of Communications Andrea Bitely said.

"He's not out walking the streets," Bitely said.
