MSU alumna Jemele Hill and University of Michigan alumna Kym Worthy are taking the rivalry between these two schools to a new level, and putting it to good use.

Hill and Worthy, who serves as the prosecutor of Wayne County, have turned this rivalry week into a competition to see who can raise the most most money to go towards testing backlogged rape kits.

“It’s a nice way for these two families (MSU and University of Michigan) to show competitiveness,” Hill said.

Hill said she chose to support backlogged rape kits in Detroit because sexual assault is a topic with a large connection to her life.

“Sexual assault is very personal for me,” Hill said. “My mother is a rape survivor; I was nearly attacked as a preteen. I am willing to lend whatever help that I can.”

Hill said she chose Detroit because it played a large part in making her the woman she is today.

“I was raised in Detroit,” Hill said. “I am emotionally connected to the city, I wouldn’t be the person that I am today — I owe the city a lot.”

Hill said in addition to hoping to raise more money than Worthy, she also thinks MSU will come out victorious Saturday in Ann Arbor when the football teams battle it out.

"My prediction is that we will win."

“My prediction is that we will win,” Hill said. “It has been getting interesting, they (MSU Football Team) have been getting a lot of attention. I know that the players and Dantonio take the game personally and they are looking forward to celebrating.”

As of Thursday, Oct. 15, $23,877 has been raised for the testing of unopened rape kits. The MSU vs. U-M competition ends on game day, Oct. 17. To learn more or to donate you can click here.
